Golden Mask Festival / April 5-12, 2006
András Nagy Ph.D., Director Hungarian Theater Museum and Institute
It was somewhat “paradoxical” for me to visit Moscow as a part of an American group, with all the historical baggage we have in Hungary. Yet once the whole trip came to theater (and very soon it did), nothing else existed than colleagues talking about the same profession/devotion/addiction to the stage. It was extremely inspiring and highly informative in both ways: to learn about Russian theaters and at the same time to get some familiarity with the thinking of American colleagues and friends. The trip as a “model” also worked greatly, and was very helpful to start to think about a similar visit of American colleagues to Hungary; and also to have ideas about an international theater festival, that Hungary definitely lacks and needs.
