The
evolution of contemporary dance in both Russia and East
Africa is recent -- in less than a decade, a generation
of committed and visionary creators have moved from the
dominance of classical/ballet (Russia) and traditional
dance (East Africa) to lay claim to fresh territories
for contemporary dance in their respective cultural
landscapes. Dance Traffic fosters encounters and
exchanges between Russian and East African contemporary
dance artists.

Focuses
on Russian directors and new writing and involves the
use of carefully curated visitations by US theatre
leaders to Moscow (Golden Mask Festival) and St.
Petersburg (New Drama Festival), as well as Novosibirsk,
Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorad, Togliatti, etc. to
encourage artistic links between Russia and the US. more

Bulgarian/US Coigny / ITI Initiative |

Is a
small, targeted, renewal of the former US/Bulgarian
connection (through CITD and its US Partner Theatres)
spearheaded by Martha Coigny, long time director and
president of the International Theatre Institute.
